They met at a New Year’s Party in Vauxhall and after just six months of being together, Naomi relocated from Birmingham to London. Five and half years later they got married. This is their love story…

Hours before the proposal Naomi and I had to take an hour long taxi ride to the DHL collection office in Egypt, where we were on holiday. Unbeknownst to me, Naomi had forgotten to pack my engagement ring and had had to ask my mum to ship it out. Naomi wanted to keep it all a secret, so she concocted this story that she’d forgotten her camera and had organised for it to be shipped out by DHL.

The same night, we went out for a lovely dinner at our hotel, went for a stroll and stopped by a large fountain. It was then that Naomi went down on one knee and proposed to me – I was so shocked, I cried and then yelled “Yes of course!!”

We both wanted a very traditional wedding, with a neutral colour palette. With the help of our wedding planners – Ayshea Donaldson from My London Wedding Planner and Gindy from Royal Wedding Services – we were able to have the traditional, elegant wedding that I’ve always dreamed of. A lot of my wedding inspiration came from Instagram.

The night before the wedding we had a rehearsal dinner with our bridal party. The morning of the wedding was full of excitement, I even managed to sneak a glass of Brut with my bridesmaids!! Naomi had a lie-in and woke up at 8:30am!

As both of our families are of Caribbean heritage, they were adamant that we had to serve Caribbean food at our wedding. After six months of no success finding a venue that accepted external caterers, we found Savill Court Hotel, which was happy to accept external caterers. And, as soon as we saw Savill Court Hotel, we knew we found our venue. Based in Windsor, the breathtaking grounds echoed the elegant theme that we were going for. It was perfect.

We had invited 120 guests who were arriving from both Birmingham and London. The overall day was fantastic and the weather was lovely.

On arrival, our guests were greeted with arrival drinks and after the ceremony Caribbean fusion canapés were served whilst the photographer took shots.

At the reception, guests were served a three course meal, then we had speeches from our loved ones and a ‘Fight Box’ ritual where Naomi and I placed our handwritten love notes to each other inside a wooden box with our favourite bottle of dessert wine and glasses. We sealed the box and made a pact to open the box when we have our first fight.

We then opened the dance floor to John Legend, So High and Drake, Shut It Down – our throwback anthem!

Brixton Cake Shop designed and made our wedding cake. It was a five tier ivory cake with a satin finish. The wedding cake featured a floral twist of beautiful handmade sugar ivory flowers to match our colour scheme. Each layer had a different flavour- rum, red velvet, piña colada, vanilla. Lastly, we would like to thank Julie, Naomi’s Aunty for being the best Master of Ceremony we could ever ask for!
