Brasil’s tropical climate and sexy demeanour are only a part of its allure. Its forest-covered mountains and lakes are jaw-droppingly beautiful, its beaches are famous the world over, and its culture vibrant and alive. And, as luck would have it, Brazil’s capital city, Rio de Janeiro, has it all: dive in and live the exotic.

If it’s a breathtaking view of Rio that you’re after, you’ll find it at La Maison by Dussol. Just 10 minutes away from the energy of the bars and boutiques below, set on the hillside of Gávea in one of Rio’s most sought-after residential areas, screened from view behind a high white gate, is La Maison, a beautifully-restored colonial mansion with stunning views of the rainforest, mountains, lagoon and Christ the Redeemer.
Somewhere between a luxury B&B and a privately-butlered residence. Owned and created by two well-travelled French brothers, the decor is elegant and thoughtful, and staff couldn’t be more helpful. A stay here feels somewhere between a luxury B&B and privately-butlered residence: distinctly first class.
Within easy reach of the beaches at Ipanema and further along Copacabana, La Maison by Dussol is a 10-minute drive from Leblon, Rio’s most affluent neighbourhood, and about 20 minutes from downtown Rio.
Design and Style
La Maison was built and designed by François-Xavier with the emblematic signature of its owners, the Dussol brothers. Its stylish interiors showcase a mix of designer and vintage furnishings, with many original antiques sourced from Rio itself.
Wonderfully quiet and intimate, La Maison has just five rooms, each one unique, with its private terrace or balcony, and decor inspired from countries around the world: India (the Ganesha Room), China (the Shanghai Room), Brazil (the Copacabana Room), France (the Recamier Room) and the United-States (the Tiffany Room).
Ask for The Copacabana for a magnificent view of the Corcovada, the Recamier for the view of the city and Christ the Redeemer, or Tiffany, if you want the largest terrace.
A stay at La Maison is all about you-time – you’ll find no TVs, DVD players or minibars in your rooms.

It is a short drive from Leblon and Ipanema and the main touristic spots of the city.
The nearby favela is safer than others - if you'd like to explore, ask La Maison to arrange a local guide to take you.
You should also spend a day on the world's most famous beach - Copacabana, and wander the boutiques of Ipanema.
No trip to Rio is complete without seeing Christ the Redeemer up close - we suggest you take the train.
Take the funicular train to the top of Sugar Loaf mountain for a spectacular view of the city, its bays and beaches. It will take your breath away.
Walk one of the trails in the beautiful Tijuca forest - see the 115 foot Cascatinha de Taunay waterfall.
Brasil's gloriously golden beaches are famous the world over, but none so much as Copacabana - make sure you spend at least one day here, sipping a caipirinha and watch the sexy world of Rio go by. Ipanema also has a gorgeous stretch of beach, not to mention trendy cafes, boutiques and eateries.
There are plenty of great bars and restaurants in trendy Leblon (a 10 minute taxi drive) or in the city itself; tell La Maison's manager the type of place you want to go to and he'll tell you the best places to go.
