Brazil’s tropical climate and sexy demeanour are only a part of its allure. Its forest-covered mountains and lakes are jaw-droppingly beautiful, its beaches are famous the world over, and its culture vibrant and alive. And, as luck would have it, Brazil’s capital city, Rio de Janeiro, has it all: dive in and live the exotic.
As views over Rio go, they don’t get much better than the 180° panorama La Suite has over Rio’s coastline.
Every single suite overlooks the sea and offers stunning panoramic views over Rio. Perched in an exclusive clifftop location between rainforest and mountains, all seven of La Suite’s bedrooms enjoy the stunning sight of the ocean, the beach, the forest, the Christ Redeemer and the Cagarras Islands; many say it’s unmatched by any other hotel in Rio.

Your private hideaway
La Suite is an unassuming guesthouse in an exclusive and peaceful part of Rio; its gardens are filled with exotic flowers, and although the mansion may look grand, its thoughtful decor and discreet and attentive staff will make you feel as though you're in your own private hideaway, with a birdseye view of Rio below. Originally built in 1968, the house was redesigned by Frenchman François-Xavier Dussol (also owner of La Maison) and carefully refurbished with antiques and artisan pieces hand-picked by François-Xavier during his trips to various Brazilian and international markets to give an interesting balance of original works by local and international designers.
Overlooking the sea, the seven suites are intimate, elegant and designed in a lavish rainbow of colours. Each has been given the name of the colour it is celebrating - Black, Purple, White, Green, Pink, Blue and Yellow - with marbled bathrooms of the same colour, and balconies that allow you to enjoy the spectacular views in private. Rooms also feature king size beds with Trussardi 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, bathrooms stocked with Brazilian brand Granado toiletries, and an iPod filled with a selection of international music.
Start the day with fresh fruit, juices, yoghurt, pastries and coffee on the terrace for breakfast. There aren't too many nearby eateries, so you will need to take a taxi if you dine out for lunch and dinner, but if you'd rather eat at La Suite, you'll need to arrange it in advance with the staff. With Chef Ricardo Hiltz at the helm, eating in at La Suite, is by all accounts a great experience. His use of fresh organic ingredients genuinely allows the seasons' produce to shine.
La Suite by Dussol is within walking distance to the exclusive Joatinga beach and a short drive from the beaches of Barra da Tijuca (5 km), Leblon, Ipanema (10 km) and Copacabana (14km). If you decide to explore further westbound, you will find the idyllic beaches of Reserva, Prainha and Grumari (20-30 km), which form part of a nature reserve. If you tire of the beach life, there's plenty to do on the sea and in the hills including trekking, paragliding, snorkelling, kite surfing and sailing.
