How to: Plan the Perfect Proposal (Inside Story Included)

Love and individuality are worth celebrating and so when it comes to the perfect proposal for to the person you love, we believe in making it special; not by following generic ideas you’ve seen online but by making it personal; tailoring it to your partner, your relationship and what makes you such a sublime match.

Professional proposal planner, Daisy Amodio, shares her top tips for creating the perfect proposal.

Make it personalised

It’s all about the detail.

Think about why you love each other, where you met, where you shared your first date; your favourite film.

It doesn’t need to cost the earth, just make it meaningful by putting some thought and effort into it.

If your partner loves pink roses, then fill your home with them.

If they love James Bond, mimic an iconic scene and weave your proposal into it.

Choose the right location

There’s no point proposing at a football stadium if your partner hates football.

Get the location right and consider the weather beforehand.

There may be event happening or it may be raining on the day, so always have a back-up plan.

Capture it on film

In this day and age, everyone loves pictures.

Make sure you capture this once-in-a-lifetime moment so you have it to share with your friends and family (even you grandchildren) time and time again.

Friends and/or family

You might want everyone you know at your proposal to celebrate with you but make sure that a) you know that the answer will be a “yes”, and b) that you rehearse what you want to say – just saying those four famous words is pressure enough without worrying about what the family think.

Private or public

If your partner is shy, then don’t put them on the spot in a public place in front of a thousand people with a singing flash mob!

Make sure it’s private or somewhere where it’s just about the two of you.

Likewise, if you want to declare your love from the rooftops then go for it: everyone loves to see a romantic proposal.

Perfect Proposals: The Inside Story

Planning on proposing sometime soon, but need some help making the proposal absolutely perfect?

Say hello to The Proposers, a team of marriage proposal planning specialists that create once-in-a-lifetime moments expertly tailored to set the scene and ambience for when and how you pop the question.

To date, they have planned more than 1,500 proposals that have involved some elaborately thought out requests including bespoke songwriting, dressing cats as waiters, and flashing up a proposal on the screens of Time Square.

Intrigued? Founder, Daisy Amodio, tells us more…

“We’ve worked with people from all walks of life – from sports stars and royalty with unlimited budgets, to everyday people like you and me who just want to do something special for the one they love.Translate that to budgets, and to date proposals we’ve planned have ranged from £1,000 to £800,000, although the average spend is £2,500.”

Based in Soho, The Proposers receives many enquiries from LGBTQ couples.

Those that seek out their help either have a great idea that they need help pulling off, or want to create the perfect proposal but don’t know how they want to structure it or what they want to do.

Some people want something simple, but straight-forward, like a private, candlelit dinner at the Shangri La at The Shard with the room all decked out with their partners’ favourite flowers, and a musician playing in the background.

Others want something more left-field.

Recently we had someone who wanted to propose to his cat-obsessed partner, so we hired out a cat café for afternoon tea, had a jazz singer write and sing a song for them about cats, and dressed 50 cats as waiters, with one of them carrying the ring.

And that’s not as out there are requests get.

“We’ve helped one client fake a partner’s drug arrest, we’ve hired Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Foxx as part of a proposal, and we’ve even clambered down into a remote cave in the Lake District to set up a romantic, fairy-light-lit picnic for a caving enthusiast to propose in.”

Proposals are very personal. And that’s why Daisy believes her job and that of her team, is the best job in the world.

“It’s not just because of the variety it brings, but because of the relationships that are formed.

People trust us to orchestrate one of the most important moments in their lives and in doing so we often get to know them very well, and become friends.

It’s an honour to help them organise something so intimate and important and that’s why we always put our heart and souls into every single proposal we help curate.”
