Originally built in 1239 for Dominican monks, this beautiful medieval building is now a AA-rosette restaurant and one of Newcastle’s most vibrant and welcoming wedding venues. It boasts an ornate banquet hall – once used by King Edward III, genuine and bespoke medieval banners, chandeliers, stained glass windows, vast oak dining tables, and a horseshoe of stone buildings that surround a peaceful and sheltered courtyard. And, if that wasn’t enough, it’s also in the heart of Newcastle city.
An historic setting
Available for exclusive use hire, you can choose to marry in the ground floor Banquet Hall or upstairs in the Tasting Room, before celebrating your nuptials with a champagne reception in the courtyard or Parlour Bar (where the Dominicans welcomed their visitors many centuries ago) followed by a delicious wedding breakfast in the incredible Banquet Hall.
Many of the dishes served at Blackfriars pay tribute to its medieval past, and one of the most popular wedding menu choices is the five course wedding breakfast, carefully designed by the head chef to showcase the very best cuisine the region has to offer.
Ready to welcome you to Blackfriars is a dedicated team of wedding coordinators who genuinely love what they do and will work hard to ensure every part of your wedding day runs without a hitch.
“We have proudly hosted many same sex marriages here at Blackfriars and look forward to hosting many more. Our venue has incredible character, and history is every space of the building, and this adds to the intimacy and fantastic atmosphere weddings here have.” Laura, Blackfriars Restaurant & Banquet Hall
