Most couples getting married realise the importance to them of the venue, food, entertainment etc. But a recent survey revealed over 50 per cent of wedding GUESTS said the most memorable thing about the day was the speeches!
I am the writer of the award winning LGBTQ+ feature film GET REAL In my career, I have been a successful TV writer and theatre director, working on LGBTQ+ storylines and characters in This Life, Monarch of The Glen, As If, East Enders, Casualty, and others. Are you having speeches at your wedding? Is everyone (you, your spouse, the Best Man or Woman, or proud parents) confident that they are in control of the content of their speeches and that their appearance in the spotlight will do justice to the occasion? OR IS THERE SOME ANXIETY IN THE AIR! If so, don't worry! That's completely normal. Speaking in public for the inexperienced can apparently compete with the stress levels of jumping out of a plane! But I can help and make sure speeches deliver not only great content but are also presented with the confidence of an experienced public speaker or even a stand-up comedian! I've coached top actors in comic timing and nerve control and woven stories with humour and romance. I can do the same for you. I've been using my skills to write wedding speeches and coach presentations for the last 10 years. I work out of Basingstoke, Hampshire, but can work with clients all over the UK, and globally.Why do you want to work with LGBTQ+ couples?
As a gay man I grew up when Section 28 was on the statute books and the age of consent 21! I have fought for LGBTQ+ rights all my adult life, as a writer and activist. As an activist and writer (including the award-wining film Get Real) LGBTQ+ people being allowed to marry was the proudest moment of my life.
What is your creative approach to weddings?
II aim to boost the confidence of anyone giving a speech at a wedding,, soo they can stand up with pride and deliver their material for ultimate impact! All weddings are different. I take time to discuss and get to know the varying needs and of the participants - no cut and paste jobs! As an experienced TV and Theatre writer and director I am am able enhance the thoughts and feelings of the speakers so there words come from the heart.
What do you love about what you do?
After decades of fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, nothing gives me greater pleasure and satisfaction professionally than to help LGBTQ+ people proudly declare their love publicly.
What is included in the wedding package?
Golden Star
As well as being a television writer I am also a West End Director, so clients receive everything mentioned in the Silver Service package, but also up to three hour long sessions, online or in person, in which I will coach them in the presentation of the speech, removing nerves and helping them look forward to making the big day even more memorable. Silver Service I will send the client a form with a few questions for them to fill in so I can get a handle on their connection to the wedding and their requirements. This will enable me to decide how to make any speech a STAR turn. We will then speak either online or in person and I will make suggestions as to how the speech may go. Then I’ll write the speech from scratch, using their material to tell their story just as I would if writing words for a TV star. We can then have further discussions about what they are and are not happy with until we get it right. Fine Tune Send me the speech already written, and I will use my script writing expertise to read and analyse it. Then we will discuss potential changes. Based on our discussion I will then use my years of creating stories with emotion and humour to polish and edit the speech to give it STAR quality.Do you cover more than one wedding a day?
As my coaching and speech writing services are carried out prior to the big day, I can provide help for multiple weddings.
Do you need specific materials or conditions to offer your service?
No. I can work remotely on line with people all over the world. I also have a studio for face to face meetings, and can travel to a client's address, which is particularly useful for any help they need with presentation.

A must have for any nervous groom
Having known Patrick personally for well over a decade there was no one else I would have gone too to help me prepare for the big event.

Although I have some experience of public speaking I asked Patrick to help me as I wanted to make sure I was as well prepared as possible to deliver my “father of the bride” speech. You only get one chance to get that right. Patrick’s approach was spot on from the beginning, taking time to understand my needs and style of delivery. His advice, for example, on how to rehearse at the venue and other essential practicalities was something I would almost certainly have overlooked. It greatly improved the end result.
