Liz Thompson conducted our marriage (and my mum’s memorial). An amazing celebrant who personalises any service she conducts, from birth, through life’s events, to death. I would want no-one else overseeing it.

    Higher than highly recommend xxx

We are so glad we found Liz….what a wonderful woman she is! From the moment we first met her we felt completely at ease. Throughout our numerous email correspondence, our ceremony rehearsal, and then the big day itself, she was always available to talk through ideas or to offer advice and support.

She listened to exactly what we wanted whilst offering her own advice from her years of expertise, and translated it into a unique ceremony which was tailor-made to us and our personalities. It was so refreshing to be able to express our love for each other on our terms, rather than the prescribed words from the registry office.

Liz made a gorgeous bespoke handfasting cord for our ceremony, the quality of which was stunning. After the ceremony, Liz presented us with a copy of our service, which was beautifully put together and such a lovely memento of a perfect day. We couldn’t ask for anything more. It’s hard to really sum up in words exactly how amazing! We would happily recommend her services to anyone who wants to make their wedding truly the special occasion it deserves to be.

On 1st June 2019 we had a naming day for our daughter and it was the most amazing, emotional and funny service we could ever have wished for. At first we were unsure what it would entail and if I’m honest I was a little sceptical as I’d never heard of a naming ceremony let alone attended one.

All fears were quickly banished at the very first planning meeting, Liz was so informative and imaginiatve. She kept us updated throughout the process and went above and beyond to ensure the day was simply perfect. Each and every person commented on what a fantastic service it was and I’m sure there will be more bookings which come from it! Liz you’re amazing at what you do we cannot thank you or recommend you enough x

From the first phone call with Liz we knew we had found the person that we wanted to marry us. Her warm, friendly yet professional manner was exactly what we had been looking for. Liz came to visit us and really took the time to get to know our personalities. She explained and went through so many different options to ensure we would have exactly what we wanted for the wedding. The questions asked weren’t intrusive at all and allowed her to really get a picture of us and it was a really lovely way to talk through and tailor a ceremony bespoke to us. We were able to contact Liz for any advice we needed and were given all the time we needed to write vows, find our own readings and get advice on how the ceremony would run.

We all met for a rehearsal before the big day where she was able to meet the rest of our families, which added an even more personal touch. On the wedding day itself, she was such a calming influence on the groom and ensured everything was and would run smoothly. There was no stress at all as we completely trusted everything would go to plan due to her fantastic organisation. The ceremony was beautiful and we will remember it for the rest of our lives. It is very rare that you find someone that can so quickly understand and capture exactly what a couple wants on their big day but Liz got everything so right and with so many little touches that just made the day even more special.

Lucy and I were really excited about getting married and were completely buzzed with organising the whole wedding. We knew exactly what we wanted, and we wanted the same thing – except for in one area: the ceremony. One of us wanted a sincere and somewhat serious ceremony; one of us wanted a fun and playful ceremony. We had no idea how to breach this divide. We spoke to three potential celebrants, but it was clear that Liz, who we found on the Canal Street website under wedding planning, was best placed to help us navigate through our different view and create a successful ceremony.

From the beginning Liz was heartfelt yet professional; a difficult balance to strike! We felt that she completely understood us and what we wanted and we were relaxed in her professional hands. She had a process that she guided us through, but was also completely flexible too. That balance is what made us feel that we could completely trust her and that she was listening.

Our ceremony was perfect, just what we wanted. It had the right blend of sincere (but not tacky) moments, and a great deal of lightness and laughter. We feel that the congregation knew more about us as a couple, laughed at a lot of the journey we had been on together, and then took part in our journey into becoming married. Liz had a great idea to involve our mums as well as our dads in the ceremony, which we loved, and of course enabled our beloved dog to be part of the ceremony too.

If we were to get married again we wouldn’t change a thing about the ceremony or working with Liz.

Liz was absolutely brilliant, from the moment we first got in touch with and met her to discuss how we’d like our day to go, we felt at ease. Liz is very attentive, patient, warm and thoughtful and put a lot of effort and warmth into crafting the words she shared with our guests on the wedding day. She was able to use her words and ours to convey what the day was truly about and for that, we are grateful. 5 stars out of 5, would definitely recommend her service.

What Makes Us Unique

In a nutshell

Working with you to bring a fresh approach to creating a personal and unique ceremony that is filled with love, laughter and heartfelt sentiments, and I believe creating something uplifting and memorable can only be done by spending time with you and getting to know you. Choosing to work with a Celebrant opens up so many opportunities for you to have exactly what you want, whether you are celebrating your relationship or saying goodbye, and I would love to help.

Why do you want to work with LGBTQ+ couples?

Before becoming an independent Celebrant I worked in social care and social inclusion for many years. My main speciality is person centred practice and my aim is to work with you to ensure that you have full choice and control and that your service or ceremony is the right one for you or your loved one.

I value working with all kinds of people, whatever your background or lifestyle choices, believing that difference enriches and brings value to our lives.

What is your creative approach to weddings?

As many of us have, I have experienced many highs and lows in life, the lows have made me stronger and equipped to support you through life’s challenges, empathising but also recognising that your needs are as unique as the loved ones that you may have lost.

What do you love about what you do?

Building relationships and compatibility are important to creating the perfect service or ceremony and I offer as standard a first no obligation meeting, in person, on the phone or by Skype which gives us the opportunity to get to know each other and for you to decide whether you would like to work with me.
