In a Nutshell
After an original intention to study Fine Art was delayed, Alison trained and worked in Graphic Design. Looking for a more satisfying and hands-on creative outlet, her love of sewing, corsets, vintage fashion, history, burlesque and classic movie glamour all came together and resulted in Crikey Aphrodite.
What is your creative approach to weddings?
Alison is a trained bra fitter which makes her eminently qualified to produce corsets for fuller busted women who are not well catered for by off-the-rack corsets. Smaller busted women also benefit from shaping designed to flatter. As so many women of all shapes find it difficult to fit into any off the rack corset fit is the most important (and trickiest) element of bespoke corsetry. She also has a long term love of embroidery and fine lace (perhaps the only person to embroider a poster for her first big college graphics project!) and a passion for fine fabrics. So quality is another huge priority.
Crikey Aphrodite has shown at the Nightwalk fashion show in the Arches in Glasgow, sent pieces to exhibitions in the British Embassy in Moscow and to the Ukraine, and been included in the Museums of Scotland Legacy of Lace exhibition in Kilmarnock's Dick Insitute.
What is your travel policy?
Please do get in touch and arrange for a consultation with Alison in Renfrewshire. If that is unsuitable a meeting space can be arranged in Glasgow city centre.
In some circumstances consultations and fittings can be held in your own home, for instance if accessibility is an issue.
