What Makes Us Unique

In a nutshell

Hello! I'm Nick(y), my pronouns are they/them and I'm a queer wedding photographer. I'm based in Bristol, work UK-wide, and I cover weddings of all shapes and sizes! I specialise in relaxed, natural images and my photography has documentary feel to it - I love capturing images which feel real, where people are lost in the moment and not even necessarily aware of the camera. To my eyes, the best images always start from a point of authenticity.

I’m probably the right photographer for you if you want someone chilled out, who can set you at ease throughout any nerves or awkwardness, and who will celebrate you for who you are.
Affordability is also a key part of my ethos. Wedding photography can be expensive. Not everyone has a large budget, and hiring a professional, experienced and high-quality wedding photographer isn't within everyone's means. While I need to make a living out of my work, I've developed my wedding packages specifically with affordability in mind. I believe that everyone should be able to afford to have those special moments captured, regardless of wealth or income.

Why do you want to work with LGBTQ+ couples?

I'm LGBTQ myself, and working with LGTBQ folks over the past few years has brought me so much joy! Just being present at LGBTQ weddings fills me up with warmth, and its such a privilege to be able to document those stories with my camera. There's just something really special about seeing my own community thriving.

On another level, I think it can be difficult for LGBTQ people to find genuinely supportive, non-judgmental suppliers in what is a very heteronormative industry. And as trans person, I know that being on camera can sometimes be really nerve-wracking, and that it can be difficult to know whether your photographer will be sensitive towards this. One of the reasons I work predominantly with LGBTQ couples is because I want to make sure you find a photographer you can be comfortable with. No one should be made to feel uncomfortable on their wedding day, and I guarantee to never pose you based on assumed gender roles, use out-of-date heteronormative language, or make weird assumptions.

What is your creative approach to weddings?

My wedding photography is very natural and unscripted, focusing on capturing all the main moments authentically, without any awkward posing or forced smiles. My photos often capture the way a wedding feels; is it busy, crowded and noisy with people all over the place, or does being there feel intimate, like it's your own little bubble universe?

I especially love taking candids - whether that's a teary father during the ceremony, or a fabulous friend on the dancefloor. Above all I like to be unobtrusive, keeping out of the way and taking photos from a distance so everyone can just get on with enjoying themselves! I make sure never to block anyone's view during the ceremony, keep the group photos minimal, and aim for subtlety when taking candids!
I also take a consent-based approach to photography - meaning that if any of your guests don't feel comfortable having their picture taken, I will respect their wishes.
