What Makes Us Unique

In a nutshell

We open 6 days a week (closed Sunday), and everything is run by appointments, which are available from 10am - 7pm 4 days a week & 1-4 Fridays, with Tuesdays reserved for Collections. This enables flexible, convenient hours for consultations and fittings. This also ensures each couple receive 100% of Helen's attention during your time in store and we believe this focus on personalised customer service and attention to detail makes us unique. Its a legacy of our heritage. Sanders Hirewear was, until April 2022 the Hire Department of Sanders Menswear, a 3rd generation traditional gentleman's outfitters opened in 1932 by Cornelius Sanders and continued until his grandson Robert's retirement in March 2022. Helen Kirk (She/Her), the hire manager, and now business owner, has worked for Sanders since 2002, moving into the hire department full time in 2010 and sharing the management role of the department since 2016.

Why do you want to work with LGBTQ+ couples?

Inclusivity is very important to our business. Our shop is a safe space. We have Gender-Neutral changing rooms and bathroom, as well as a waiting room for party members to enjoy to ensuring privacy during 1 to 1 fittings.  We strongly believe anyone who wishes to wear a suit or highland wear for their event should do so. More and more cis women & girls are also being included in 'Groom's Parties' & hiring tux's for School Proms too.

What is your creative approach to weddings?

Every Wedding is unique and 'The Suits' are equally as important as 'The Dress'!  Helen likes to keep the initial consultation appointment to the primary couple in a party to ensure we can have a full conversation to discuss your ideas, your requirements and every suit package is curated with you to ensure it fulfils your vision of the day. Helen encourages couples to bring all your invitations, ideas and look books, mood boards, accessories, fabric swatches ect with you to that consultation so that we can match colour schemes and patterns to create suit packages that will reflect and compliment your overall scheme.

What do you love about what you do?

The thing I love most about working at Sanders is that you are meeting people at a very important event in their lives. Obviously weddings are an exciting highlight moment, but we also supply suits for christenings, proms, graduations, Royal Ascot, Palace Garden parties and investitures, and sadly also funerals. Working with our clients to help make each event as special and unique to them as possible is so very rewarding and with the history of the business being such an icon of Eastwood Highstreet, we regularly see couples whose Grandparents came to Sanders for their wedding suits. When Sanders Menswear finally announced its closure after 90 years of trading, due to the Sanders Family retirements, Helen knew she didn't want to do anything else.

What is included in the wedding package?

All our prices are for 7 day hire of the full package: which comprises jacket, trousers, shirt, neckwear, pocket square & cufflinks, accidental damage insurance and waistcoat where stated for suits and the full highland outfit, including its accessories & brogues for kilts. Individual items, and part packages are also available and are prices for these will quoted in full as part of the consultation.

Do you cover more than one wedding a day?

We are fully supported by Peter Posh & Cameron Ross which enables us to cater to many weddings & events each week if needed. The maximum suits we have rented  in a week so far was 67 over 17 parties.

Do you charge per hour or per event?

Suits and Kilts are charged per hire. The rental period is for 7 days from collection to return. Extended hire is then available for destination weddings, holidays and cruises ect.
