How We Met

Martin and Greg had both come out of long-term relationships and found themselves newly single and facing a new landscape of dating, dominated by apps. They followed the new protocol, met, and three and a half years later, they married! This is their story...

Living and dating in London has certainly got its fair share of crazies, but after that first app meet, things progressed really positively. Who knew that 3? years later, we'd be Mr & Mr?!

The Proposal

The proposal was not the sexiest or most romantic gesture. I was living in Italy and we were doing back and forth for about 10 months, and as much as Lake Como is an amazing place to live, being apart was difficult. I'd started entertaining new job opportunities and Greg was looking to move to Italy, and then I was offered a new job in the US.

We both talked about the move and agreed we would move together to the US. The more we discovered with regards to moving, the more the question of marriage popped up. So we thought FUCK IT! WHY NOT! In the space of just six weeks, we managed to pull of an amazing day.

The (Actual) Wedding

We held our ceremony in the local registry office and our reception - with 40 guests - in Windsor. Windsor's so beautiful in August (and a lot cheaper than central London). In terms of theme, we wanted something quirky and fun; something delicate, simple, and chic. And with a lot of pineapples.

The venue was really amazing, they were open to us curating our day exactly the way we wanted. It went amazingly well and was enjoyed by everyone. It went by so fast but wouldn't change a thing at all. We steered away from tradition, so we didn't have a first dance, but we did have speeches, a cake (a simple tiered, painted cake, designed by a friend) and a lot of cocktails!
We served classic English food to cover all tastes: so guests had the choice of confit of duck with shitake mushrooms balottine, tomato and mozzarella aspic or melted goats cheese salad for starters, followed by braised lamb shank, sea bass, or cajun spiced corn-fed chicken for mains, and Baileys torte or passionfruit crme brulee for desert.
In the evening, we had an open bar, so many cocktails were consumed, but we did open up with prosecco and berry cocktails served with a raspberry and white chocolate treat!

Final Words

Do whatever makes you happy. Its one day which you will treasure for ever. It's not about other people, its about you. Whatever you think is fabulous people will too.
