The Planning

-Did you see many venues before deciding?

We had looked at a few venues online. We only came to visit Port Lympne and fell in love with the venue and the warmth of the staff as soon as we arrived.

-Why was it the perfect venue for your wedding day?
Port Lympne was unique. It has a variety of locations within the venue for hosting the ceremony. Personally, we fell in love with the mansion. There were many accommodation options within the reserve for guests. Having access to the reserve meant there were activities available such as animal encounters, safari trips. Everything in one place on site.
Animal conservation is important to us, so it was perfect from the point of view, having the wedding at Port Lympne meant contributing towards that work.

-How did you choose the suits?
The colour scheme of the wedding was based around green and orange. We decided on green suits with an orange tie. It was difficult looking for these colours at the time as they were not in season. We found the perfect suit in a shop called Santoro Milan. They were very helpful and did alterations, so it fitted perfectly.

-Did you have any special accessories or shoes to complete your look?
Our cuff links were dogs (our spaniels). The tie pins were tigers. Our socks were safari themed!
We tried to keep within the theme of the venue, where possible.

-What was your décor/colour scheme, and how did you decide on it?
We decided to continue the décor with the general colour theme of the wedding, colours that might invoke visions of safari/natural. The tables were named after some of the animals on the reserve.

-Who did your wedding flowers?
Anemone blue did our flowers. https://www.anemoneblue.co.uk/ .They were local to Port Lympne and did a fantastic job.

-What did you have in your flower arrangements/bouquets?
The brief for the flower arrangements were Natural/Safari/Tropical. The bouquets included Bird of Paradise, and Gerberas. The tables had a similar arrangement in the centre surrounded by terracotta pots that had plants such as ferns in. We recycled the arrangements where possible. For example, the Terracotta pots used to line the aisle during the ceremony were then put onto the tables. We then gave these away for guests to take home. The arrangement used on the ceremony table, was then transferred to the cake table.

The Wedding Shot

-Who was your wedding photographer, and how did you choose them?

We chose Paul Fuller photography. https://paulfullerkentphotography.com/ . We wanted to choose someone local and after seeing Paul's amazing work online and an initial consultation we chose Paul.

-What style/look did you want for your photos?
We didn't want anything too formal, just more capturing natural moments/emotion.

-Do you have a favourite photo from the day?
There are too many to mention. Every photo invokes beautiful memories.

The Reception

- What food did you have and how was it?

First there was a drinks reception with canapes on the terrace, overlooking the beautiful views towards the coast.
Then we headed into the mansion for the wedding breakfast. The food was delicious. A 5-course seasonal meal. Both of us had the satay chicken satay for starters, salmon for main, then I had the chocolate torte and Scott had the Eton mess. There were a variety of options for guests to choose from during the planning stage.

-Tell us about your wedding cake. Who made and designed it for you?
Local to us, Jeys Heavenly Events. https://www.facebook.com/jeysheavenlyevents/ made our cake. The design was a safari scene, white with black silhouettes. It was a 3 tier sponge, one lemon flavour, one with a biscoff and the other was vanilla. The inside was zebra printed. It was absolutely stunning.

-What were your speeches like? Any standout moments?
Scott and I decided we would both do speeches. We know those moments can be nerve wracking and didn't want to make anyone feel more nervous than we did on the day. Scott's mum did a toast. The standout moment from that part of the day were the wedding singers. They were disguised as waiters. It all unfurled after one of them pretended to fall with all the cutlery and then produced a microphone. Next thing we knew, we were all doing the conga with all the guests around the terrace. Unknown to me, Scott had secretly planned this with the Port Lympne team. It was a huge surprise and totally memorable.
We must give credit to Trevor, the toast master, he really played a significant part in making the day fantastic.

The (Actual) Wedding

-What was your favourite moment of the ceremony?

Rosh says- Walking into the ceremony after a morning of preparation and anticipation.
Scott says- Counting down after the music started that Rosh would enter at 40 seconds (laughs).

-Did you pick any special music to walk down the aisle to, or have any readings?
We chose Kylie Minogue, Just Imagine. The lyrics were perfect for that moment. A beautiful, deep, yet uplifting song.
We had one reading, which was a poem chosen by our friend Sarah. The other was a beautiful message of celebration by our friend Sue.

-What was your first dance, and why was it special to you?
Our first dance was Martine McCutcheon, Perfect Moment. Cheesy I know, but it was the perfect moment.

-How did you add personal touches to the look and feel of your day?
We had photos of each guest taken from various past occasions on their table as an addition. The tables were also personalised with accessories. Going along the theme of natural and sharing the love, the wedding favours were wild flower seeds. It was important to us to not only make sure the day was designed how we imagined, but to also make sure the guests would have the greatest day to remember

The Afterparty

-Did you have a DJ or a band? How did you choose them?

We chose Celebration Sounds. https://www.celebrationsoundsdisco.co.uk/. They were one of Port Lympne's recommended. Ian and Angela were amazing from planning to the day. Ian played the type of music we wanted for the evening celebrations.

Final Words

-What was the absolute highlight of the day?

Scott says the picture on my face when the wedding singers emerged during the wedding breakfast. I say the safari with all the wedding guests was a massive highlight. It made the day different. Our guests loved it.

-Do you have any tips or advice for other couples having their wedding at Port Lympne?
Be different, Make it your own. The team there are superb and will endeavour to help create your one dream moment in life. Take time to enjoy every moment, it goes by fast.
