Based in Mainz, Germany, fashion designer Helen Bender decided to branch into LGBT wedding fashion after her friends entered into a civil partnership. She felt that same-sex couples were too often restricted to either highly traditional or extremely androgynous wedding wear, and wanted to create a middle ground.
